Media release: Bringing green homes closer to you
- BCA launches revamped Green Mark portal at fourth Green Building Exhibition
9 September 2010 - A directory of Green Mark buildings and a comprehensive list of energy efficient features for green homes and offices are now readily available with just a click of the mouse. All these information and more, are part of the Building and Construction Authority's (BCA) revamped Green Mark portal where visitors can have access to useful information on ways to green the built environment.
Created to be a leading green building resource, the new website (http://www.greenmark.sg) is equipped with interactive elements to educate and inspire net-savvy Singaporeans to join BCA in the green journey. Besides informative videos and an updated section dedicated to green news and publications, there is also an entertaining green building game for visitors to build and experience a specially customised virtual green home.
The revamped Green Mark website was launched at the BCA Green Building Exhibition this afternoon by Mr Heng Chee How, Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC. The exhibition, which is the fourth in a series of eight roving exhibitions, will be at Marina Square from 9 to 12 September 2010.
Visitors to the Green Building Exhibition will get the opportunity to tour a model "Green Home" and be introduced to eco-friendly features and energy saving appliances that would contribute to the energy efficiency of green homes. With these information, homeowners can make better decisions, when designing or furnishing their homes, with the impact of the environment in mind.
A new addition to the exhibition is a display corner dedicated to construction productivity. Panels featuring information on innovative building materials, technology and know-how will be showcased to allow the public to have a better insight into the measures taken by the construction industry to raise productivity.
For a group of students from our local tertiary institutions, their ideal green buildings now take form in miniature-style. These students had designed and built models of green buildings from recycled materials for BCA's inaugural "Greening our Built Environment" competition which was organised to create awareness on green buildings and the usefulness of recycled materials among students. Eight intricately-designed building models from National University of Singapore, Singapore Polytechnic and BCA Academy were shortlisted out of 24 submissions. They are displayed at the exhibition for public voting and final judging by a panel of industry experts. The results will be announced this coming Sunday, where the winning teams will bring home cash vouchers from between $200 to $800.
BCA has also been spreading the green message in cyberspace via social media platforms like Youtube and Facebook. A Facebook fan page which is dedicated to this cause has garnered over 2,400 followers since it was launched. In conjunction with the exhibition, an exciting new "Tower Stacko" contest was recently added on the page. Fans could try to master the game and beat the top score before 26 September 2010 to win an equally exciting prize - an Apple Ipad.
More contests and fun green facts will also be broadcasted on the Facebook fan page over the next few weeks.
