Poor water-tightness in buildings is one of the most frequent complaints by building owners. This defect could be due to poor designing and detailing, incorrect waterproofing materials and systems or lack of supervision. Many supervisors in the construction industry are still not familiar with the different waterproofing systems, their correct methods of application and how the various systems can be integrated to ensure good water tightness. The waterproofing systems might not effectively prevent water intrusion and infiltration. As a result, unnecessary and expensive diagnosis and repairs have to be done to rectify the problems. It is therefore imperative for contractors to equip its supervisors and engineers with the knowledge and skills to supervise waterproofing works in different areas of a building.
A competent waterproofing engineer or supervisor needs to understand good practices in designing & detailing, the various types of waterproofing systems, their limitations and applications.
This course enhances his knowledge and management competency. Graduates can look forward to higher supervisory or management roles and possible career switch to technical specialists with waterproofing specialists, suppliers, consulting firm and contractors.
