Certified Green Mark Professional (GMP) Programme

The Certified Green Mark Professional Programme is a training and recognition scheme introduced by BCA to raise industry capability in the niche area of Sustainable Design and Development. Designed as a voluntary career upgrading programme for building professionals, the scheme recognises individuals with the relevant competencies in green building design and practices. Candidates seeking accreditation as Certified Green Mark Professionals with BCA would need to complete the Certification Course for GMP besides meeting other pre-requisites (please see eligibility for GMP Certification below). The GMP course is offered as a series of short modules, focused on design concepts, practical green solutions & technologies and the use of building simulation tools to predict building performance. The scheme envisions a GMP as:

A competent professional who possesses the knowledge and skills needed to carry out detailed design, prediction and enhancement of building performance for Green Mark certification and implementation.

Energy Efficient Air-Conditioning

for Commercial Buildings

Objectives

This course aims to share the benefits of energy conservation in buildings. The course will be conducted through a combination of lectures, discussions, and case studies.

Upon completion of the course, participants would be able to:

- Design or retrofitting existing air conditioning systems to improve energy efficiency while improving comfort and life cycle cost

- Articulate the environmental and financial benefits of investing in energy efficient air conditioning systems

- Optimise energy by designing different VAV systems and different ventilation systems, and analyzing their operating cost

- Analyze and measure the energy savings of different energy recovery systems

- Propose and design energy efficient air conditioning systems to customers and management

Steven Kang

Trane Asia

Steven worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Singapore’s Public Works Department for more than a year before joining Trane in 1996. A year later, he completed Trane’s 6-month Graduate Training Program at Trane’s Headquarters in the USA. Steven Kang has varied experience in Trane ranging from Unitary Sales, System Sales, Six Sigma and the design and energy optimization of HVAC systems.

Steven is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt (American Standard) and a certified Energy Manager (USA Association of Energy Engineers). He is a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE) and a member of American Energy Engineers (AEE).

He has spoken at various forums on such topics as HVAC design, energy optimization and environmental issues.

Lee Eng Lock

General Manager

Energy Division of Trane Singapore

Lee Eng Lock is a pioneer of super-efficient designs of cleanrooms, hotels, and office buildings. He routinely has designed electrical and mechanical systems that use half the energy of standard buildings. He was responsible for optimising the super efficient world headquarters, office/assembly complex of Compaq Computer in Houston, Texas.

He has given workshops on energy-efficient wafer fabs and clean rooms in Portland, Oregon, for leading semiconductor companies in Japan, Taiwan and USA; and lectures and gives seminars on measurement, data visualisation and energy efficiency for utilities, national research labs, universities, and government agencies in the USA.
