Household and Storey Shelters

Introduction

Household and storey shelters are designed and constructed for the protection of residents against weapon effects during a war emergency. These shelters have advantage of being easily accessible to residents of the house, flat and apartments when the need arises. The household shelters are located in the house, flat and apartment whereas storey shelters are located at a common property area of every storey and each storey shelter will serve the residents from the same storey.

Provision of these shelters is regulated under the Civil Defence Shelter Act. As the technical authority, Building and Construction Authority vets and issues notices of approval of shelter plan and conducts regulatory inspection and commissioning of shelters.
