SC Fund: Introduction

NEW $15 MILLION INCENTIVE TO BUILD UP CAPABILITIES IN SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

BACKGROUND

As part of BCA’s initiatives to drive sustainable construction, a new $15 million Sustainable Construction Capability Development Fund (SC Fund) has been set up to develop capabilities of the industry in adopting sustainable construction methods and materials.

The SC Fund will focus on developing capabilities in recycling of waste arising from the demolition of buildings and in the use of recycled materials for construction. This is in line with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development’s (IMCSD) goals to mitigate impact to the environment by boosting our resource efficiency through waste minimisation and recycling.

One of the key areas of sustainable construction is to encourage greater adoption of recycled materials and environmental-friendly construction practices. Some of the key focus areas of the SC Fund are listed below:

  • Sustainable construction practices or technologies
  • Waste management or waste recovery
  • Environmental-friendly products or materials

The incentive scheme operates on a co-funding basis.

EFFECTIVE DATE

The scheme is effective from 15th April 2010 and will last for 5 yrs or till the $15 million is exhausted, whichever comes first.
