The third Singapore Universal Design Week (SUDW) organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will be held from the 27 July to 29 July 2016.

This year’s theme, ‘Universal Design in Public Places’ will be discussed throughout the week in a series of events that showcase how exemplary universal design strategies have been adopted to create inclusive environments for users.

SUDW offers learning opportunities throughout the week for building practitioners, industry stakeholders and the public through a UD Exhibition, UD Forum, Building Tours and its main event, the UD Conference. The conference aims to accelerate the adoption of UD concepts to create inclusive and user-friendly public places, with designs that take into consideration the needs and abilities of everyone, including the elderly, expectant mothers, parents with young children, families, and persons with disabilities. Renowned speakers and subject experts will be sharing the importance of addressing such needs at the conference.

As one of the initiatives under the National ‘Action Plan for Successful Ageing’, BCA will be launching the “Universal Design Guide for Public Places” during the SUDW. The Guide will provide the industry with guidance on design considerations that are specifically beneficial to our seniors, family with young children and persons with different abilities; and encourage our industry to go further to design friendlier and inclusive public places.
